Social engineering is the act of manipulating people into divulging sensitive information or performing acts that compromise security.

How?

  • Phishing (use of emails that attract you to malicious websites)
  • Vishing (use of fake numbers and calls to compromise you)
  • Smishing (use of SMS or texting to compromise you)

Common Signals

  1. Sender’s email address is suspect
  2. Language or message layout is generic
  3. Use of fake URLs and websites
  4. Suspicious but innocent-looking attachments
  5. Poor layout or spelling

PLEASE PROTECT YOURSELF

  • Be suspicious of unsolicited interactions or unknown strangers

  • Do not respond or reveal data easily

  • Be wary of spoofed URLs, non secure connections (Padlock icon in browser) and non-use of HTTPS

  • Always use MULTI-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION
